OUR MISSION
The Newark Water Coalition acknowledges that Water, Housing, and Food is a human right. Our intention is to cultivate a self-determined local, national, and international community of people who recognize the connection between systemic environmental racism and capitalism. NWC fights to liberate natural resources whether it be food, land, air or water as sources of life for all.
THE WATER BOX PROJECT
The Water Box project is a collaboration between NWC and 501CTHREE. 501CTHREE was founded by Drew Fitzgerald and Jaden Smith. The Water Box is a four-stage treatment system that has been designed to address the water safety of communities where the municipal water infrastructure has degraded or been contaminated. Because it is intended to be used by volunteers in the community, the Water Box is simple to operate and maintain. Built from readily available off-the-shelf components, the 3-stage filtration and UV treatment remove the most common mineral and biological contaminants in municipal water such as lead, arsenic, copper, e-coli, legionella, and many others.
THE HEALTH IMPACTS OF LEAD POISONING
FROM THE CDC’S WEBSITE: No safe level of lead exposure in children has been identified. Exposure to lead can seriously harm a child’s health and cause well-documented adverse effects such as: Damage to the brain and nervous system, slowed growth and development, Learning and behavior problems, Hearing and speech problems. This can cause: Lower IQ, decreased ability to pay attention, Underperformance in school. There is also evidence that childhood exposure to lead can cause long-term harm.
OUR WORK
The Newark Water Coalition is one of the frontline organizations fighting for clean water in the city of Newark. The NWC has given out over 5,000 gallons of water and over 1,000 filters. The Newark Water Coalition has also shared our platform and resources with other organizations fighting for liberation and rights when it comes to housing, police brutality and climate change.

We are an organization that believes in mobilizing our communities to self-advocate and to fight on all social justice issues. There are so many ways that you can join the effort. As an organization we want you to step into your own power and grow as a leader. EL PROYECTO WATER BOX
El Proyecto Water Box es una colaboración entre NWC y 501CTHREE. 501CTHREE fue fundada por Drew Fitzgerald y Jaden Smith. Water Box es un sistema de tratamiento de cuatro etapas que ha sido diseñado para abordar la seguridad del agua de las comunidades donde la infraestructura de agua municipal se ha degradado o contaminado. Debido a que está destinado a ser utilizado por voluntarios en la comunidad, Water Box es fácil de operar y mantener. Construido a partir de componentes listos para usar, la filtración de 3 etapas y el tratamiento UV eliminan los contaminantes minerales y biológicos más comunes en el agua municipal como plomo, arsénico, cobre, e-coli, legionella y muchos otros.
LOS IMPACTOS PARA LA SALUD DEL ENVENENAMIENTO DE PLOMO
DEL SITIO WEB DEL CDC: No se ha identificado un nivel seguro de exposición al plomo en los niños. La exposición al plomo puede dañar seriamente la salud de un niño y causar efectos adversos bien documentados como: daño al cerebro y al sistema nervioso, crecimiento y desarrollo lento, problemas de aprendizaje y comportamiento, problemas de audición y hablar. Esto puede causar: menor coeficiente intelectual, disminución de la capacidad para prestar atención, bajo rendimiento escolar. También hay evidencia de que la exposición infantil al plomo puede causar daños a largo plazo.
NUESTRO TRABAJO
The Newark Water Coalition (La Coalición del Agua de Newark) es una de las organizaciones de primera línea que lucha por el agua limpia en la ciudad de Newark. El NWC ha distribuido más de 5,000 galones de agua y más de 1,000 filtros.
